Local governments make decisions that affect our daily lives. Who we choose as local leaders shapes our communities. Vote in local elections to have a voice in your future!

Town/Village Offices on the Ballot:

(not all offices will be on the ballot in every municipality)

  • Councilperson / Trustee

    • Member of body that can make or approve local laws

    • Allocates budget and personnel to run local services: highway, transfer, community services, planning and zoning commissions, and more

    • Multiple seats for this office may be on your local election ballot

  • Supervisor / Mayor

    • Chair of your local municipal council

    • Serves as chief operating officer, overseeing operations & expenditures within the projected annual budget

    • Manages town/village employees

    • Understands municipal, county, and state law and key local issues

  • Town Clerk

    • Posts official and legal notices, including new local laws

    • Issues legal documents and properly archives official records, including birth, marriage, and death certificates

    • AlsoservesastheTaxCollectorin some municipalities

  • Highway Superintendent

    • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of municipal (not county or state owned) roadways

    • Supervises highway workforce in road upkeep and snow removal

    • Manages capital exenditure for operations, vehicles, and equipment

  • Town Justice

    • Serves at the lowest level of the courts in the state judicial hierarchy

    • Adjudicates small claims matters, misdemeanors, violations, and certain felony cases

    • Understands law and court legal procedure and serves impartially

  • Tax Collector

    • Collects the tax levy approved by the board or council, from data provided by property appraisal

    • Funds collected support roads, fire and public safety, parks and recreation, libraries, and town infrastructure

  • Aldermen Wards 1 - 9

    Aldermen represent city residents, create and vote on laws in the City of Kingston, and oversee the allocation of the city’s budget to ensure effective governance.
