Ballot Proposals

Vote YES on the New York State Equal Rights Amendment

Right now, the New York State Constitution does not protect all of us

The current NY State Constitution fails to prohibit discrimination against groups who have been historically targeted, including those with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, women, and pregnant people.

Some laws exist in some places
but ALL New Yorkers ARE NOT PROTECTED EQUALLY!

The ballot proposal is our chance to fix this. The New York ERA will:

  • Prohibit discrimination by the government based on a person’s ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex—including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression—in addition to pregnancy, and pregnancy outcomes.

  • Protect against any government actions that would curtail a person’s reproductive autonomy or access to reproductive health care. For example, the ERA would prevent the State from implementing a state abortion ban, stopping state funding for abortion via Medicaid OR banning private insurance coverage of abortion, criminalizing miscarriage, and more.
